Open Settings in the app and use “Request a book”, or open an issue directly. Public-domain works only: if a book is still in copyright we cannot publish it, however much we would like to.
The readings and the modern renderings are generated, then checked, and they are not perfect. Tell us the book, the chapter and the line at the issue tracker and it will be corrected in the data, which every reader picks up automatically.
Open a book and choose “Download for offline”. The book, your place, and private notes work with the network off. Long-press a word, adjust the selection and choose “Download offline dictionary” for that language to keep new word lookups on your device too. Public discussions need a connection. “Remove from device” gives the space back without removing the book from your library.
Long-press a word, adjust the selection, then choose Dictionary to see its definition and aligned passage in the available languages. For Chinese or Japanese compounds, edit the lookup field to search the whole word. Tap the speech bubble beside a passage to keep a private note or read and start a public discussion. Posting uses a GitHub account.
Optional dictionary downloads are about 5 MB for English, 7 MB for Chinese and 16 MB for Japanese. You can remove each pack from the dictionary panel. English data comes from Open English WordNet; Chinese from CC-CEDICT; Japanese from JMdict. Source and license links are in Settings → About.
From version 1.0.7, open Reading companion in the library and sign in with GitHub. Choose Upload to select PDF, DOCX, Markdown, Mathpix Markdown, text or TeX files up to 20 MB. PDFs may have up to 30 pages. You can also ask the companion to find an open-access paper, then choose Import and read. Documents stay private. Equations, figures and tables appear in the flowing reader; wide equations and tables scroll sideways.
Conversion and chat need an internet connection. A failed PDF with a saved conversion receipt can be resumed without submitting it again. Remove a document to delete it and its conversation, or use Clear private library to remove all companion documents and history. Signing out keeps this library for your next sign-in.
